Student Self-Reflection and Goal Setting
As a part of the new 2023 K-12 Reporting Order, all students are required to self-reflect on the Core Competencies and set goals during the school year. Students will be saving their self-reflection and goals in their Google Drive, and information on how to access these self-reflections and goals will be included on the student’s report card at the end of each semester.
Students have the choice of which core competency they choose to reflect on, and the choice of what type of goal they set for themselves.
Research shows that students have accurate perceptions of themselves and their own learning, and that self reflection and goal setting can play a significant role in helping them learn and grow.

At Royal Bay, students are given time in class, at four different periods across the school year to complete their self-reflections and goal setting. The windows for the 2026/2027 school year are:
- A Block: October 19th – 30th
- B Block: January 4th – 15th
- C Block: March 29th – April 9th
- D Block: May 31st – June 11th
Students may use the templates provided below, or their teacher may provide another format. Students are encouraged to create a “Self-Reflections” folder in their Google Drive to save their templates to so that they are easy to find at later dates. Students only need to complete the self-reflection and goal setting for ONE of the Core Competencies (Communication, Thinking OR Personal and Social).
