Trades Awareness Program (TASK)
2023 – 2024 TASK application
Trades Awareness (TASK) is a “hands on” program in partnership with Camosun College that focuses on multiple trade areas: carpentry, metal, pipe fitting, electrical, plumbing, and urban forestry. Students will get practical experience building a variety of projects such as: saw horses, picnic tables, sheds, etc. Upon successful completion of the Trades Awareness Program, students will receive Industry Training Authority (ITA) C.O.R.E. certification from Camosun.
To ensure students are “job ready”, students will also take entry-level industry certifications and go out on a work placement for three weeks.
This program is one full semester and will give students up to 28 high school credits. Please contact Ms. Phillips tphillips@sd62.bc.ca if interested.
Construction Program
The Construction Program is for students who are interested in learning the fundamentals of general carpentry. This program offered will put theory into practice through construction of free standing structures such as garages, garden/tool sheds, concrete form work and models of certain framing details e.g. rafters and stairs.
Students will also take some construction entry level employment certification courses (such as first aid, WHMIS, Fall Arrest, CSTS) to make them job-site ready. During the last 4-6 weeks of the semester, students will be on work experience with local contractors.
Students who excel in this program will have the opportunity to enroll in Camosun’s Level 1 Carpentry ACE IT Program. Please contact Ms. Huculak dhuculak@sd62.bc.ca if interested.
