The Royal Bay Student Support Team offers the following supports and services:
-Collaborative consultation with school-based, family, district and outside agencies
-Coordinate and write Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
-Work closely with classroom teachers, providing supports in IEP implementation and curriculum adaptation
-Level B testing for psycho-educational assessments
-Adjudication for tests and exams
-Technology support for students
-Work closely with Educational Assistants in providing supports for students in the classroom
-Co-teaching of Cohort classes
Darrell Doerksen is a Special Education and Learning Assistance teacher who has been working at Royal Bay since September 2017. Prior to Royal Bay, he worked Spencer Middle School and Belmont as both a SPEDLA teacher and classroom teacher.
In his non-teaching life Mr. Doerksen enjoys golf, baseball, and spending time with his family.
Sarah Leswal is a Special Education and Learning Assistance teacher who has been working at Royal Bay since 2015. Prior to Royal Bay, she worked at Belmont Secondary as both a SPEDLA teacher and classroom teacher.
In her non-teaching life Ms. Leswal enjoys running, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Greg Moyes is a Special Education and Learning Assistance teacher. He worked at Dunsmuir Middle School for twenty-three years as both a SPEDLA teacher and classroom teacher before coming to Royal Bay in 2017. In his non-teaching life Mr. Moyes enjoys camping, golfing, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Ashleigh Bowins is a Special Education and Learning Assistance teacher in the STRIDE Program at Royal Bay. Prior to Royal Bay, she worked at Dunsmuir Middle School and taught in Ontario for nine years.
In her non-teaching life, Ms. B enjoys spending time with her family and staying active.
Brianna DeGirolamo is the EXCEL and Special Education teacher in the STRIDE program who started working at Royal Bay in September 2020. Prior to Royal Bay, she worked at Spencer Middle School as a classroom teacher, Sooke Elementary School as a classroom and SPEDLA teacher, and Journey Middle School as a SPEDLA teacher.
In her non-teaching life, Ms. DeGirolamo enjoys trail running, hiking, yoga, travelling, and reading.
Dani Dwinnell is a Special Education and Learning Assistance teacher who has been working at Royal Bay since September 2019. Prior to Royal Bay, she worked at Spencer Middle School for a year. Ms. Dwinnell relocated from Calgary where she worked as a Special Education teacher for 7 years.
In her non-teaching life Ms. Dwinnell enjoys camping, hiking and spending time with her family.
