Wood and Metal Programs 9-12

Royal Bay Secondary houses both specialized wood and metal shops offering well organized work areas with modern, well maintained equipment. Students in every grade level can expect that classes will begin by learning or revisiting general shop safety, and will require safety certification on each piece of major equipment before use. All class levels also will feature one or more skill building mandatory projects that are designed to advance skill and introduce an array of constructive processes. Wood and metal shop programs teach progressively more complex skills and procedures with the intention to allow time and space for exploration of personal projects and interests following the completion of the mandatory works. Drafting and Electronics/Robotics Programs 9-12

Royal Bay Secondary offers drafting and electronics in a combined mezzanine space. The lab is equipped with CAD equipped computers, large format colour plotter, 3D printers, printed circuit board production equipment, soldering stations, and access to a computer numerical control gantry router (CNC machine). The selection of equipment makes it an excellent space for designing and prototyping ideas relevant to the mechanical and architectural problems introduced in drafting classes, but also are useful in the exploration of electronic circuits, programming and the robot production found within the electronics/robotics programs. Both drafting and electronics/robotics programs teach progressively more complex skills and procedures with the intention to allow time and space for exploration of personal projects and interests following the completion of the mandatory works.
